This is the latest instalment reporting the temperature and humidity in York, this time for November 2023, using our own bespoke remote monitoring equipment, we track a full month of weather focusing seasonal trends.
We track, analyse and compare indoor and outdoor hygrometer readings throughout winter month in which temperatures dropped below zero for the first time in months. We analyse highlights, averages, highs and lows seen across the month. This is a month where temperatures dropped further noticeably with seasonal challenges with damp and mould problems in York and locally around becoming more prevalent.
Historical reports we have produced are in a separate hygrometer section of our blog – you can see last month’s Temperature and Humidity in York – October 2023 report

Hygrometer Temperature Trends – November 2023
The detailed chart trend above shows the full, granular readings across the full month, from which the November 2023 highs, lows, range and averages were measured. It shows daily cycles of temperature variances with typical highs during the day and lows during the night. As we covered earlier, from around the 25th November temperatures dropped noticeably lower as we approached December 2023.
On this chart, you can clearly see the outdoor temperature peak in York on 23rd November. Equally, the lowest temperature late in the month on the afternoon of 23rd November.
You can see the indoor temperatures were on average significantly higher, especially when the weather got cooler and that the trends of warmer and colder days in York generally follows for indoors and outdoors. Clearly this was supported by the central heating (and thermostat) regulating that.

Temperature Ranges in York – November 2023
Above, we referred to the comparison between indoor vs outdoor temperature ranges in November 2023 and the graphs above help to show this in more detail. As you will see, the outdoor (top chart) readings were in a much wider range than the equivalent indoor (bottom chart) readings and more erratic, this is to be expected in a controlled household indoor environment.
The more detailed range graph below helps to explain this further:
As you can see, the inside temperature readings taken from the hygrometer readings for November 2023 are very closely grouped with c.70% of the readings being at c.18°C (rounded to the nearest degree). In contrast, the outdoor readings are far more widely spread across a significantly wider range.
This is repeated similarly with the relative humidity readings:
Temperature and Humidity by Time of Day – November 2023
The final set of useful data for November ’23 compares at how different times of day affect indoor and outdoor readings taken by the hygrometer data loggers. The four usual groups are:
- Morning – 6am to Noon
- Afternoon – Noon to 6pm
- Evening – 6pm to Midnight
- Night – Midnight to 6am
As you would likely predict, usually the afternoon was the warmer part of the day in York during November 2023 with the night and following morning being the coolest, with evening readings being fractionally warmer on average vs the morning. This was the inverse of relative humidity for the reasons mentioned earlier.
Having said that, as the colder weather takes a grip, the variances are lesser in different parts of the day.
