This is the most recent quarterly report detailing the temperature and humidity in York for 2024 Q3 (July to September), using our own bespoke remote monitoring devices, we track three months of weather related measurements focusing seasonal variances in comparison with other meteorological periods of the year.
We record, graph and evaluate indoor and outdoor hygrometer readings throughout this quarter in which temperatures increased throughout the period summer moving into autumn. We evaluate details, averages, highs and lows seen across the period. This is a quarter where temperatures fell, at a time of year when Mould Remediation Services often see increased demand from customers in the region.
Past data reports we have produced are in a separate hygrometer section of our blog – you can see last quarter’s 2024 Q2 Report – Temperature and Humidity in York report

Let’s start with the headline figures and a summary for 2024 Q3:
- 2024 Q3 was warmer in York, with average outdoor temperature at 16.5°C
- This was more so in late July into August, as expected, temperatures peaking in the high 20s
- The highest outdoor temperature in York was 28.1°C and the minimum was 4.1°C
- The max temperature occurred on July 19th in the early evening period
- This gives an outdoor range (between high and low) of 24.0°C
- The average indoor temperature was at 20.7°C, lower than outside as expected
- The maximum indoor temperature in York was 25.4°C and the minimum was 17.0°C
- The high was on the evening of 20th July and somewhat lower that the outdoor max
- This means a relatively closer overlap of inside and outside readings
- This means an indoor range of just 8.4°C which is significantly narrower vs outdoor
Hygrometer Temperature Trends – 2024 Q3
The chart trend above shows the granular, detailed readings taken over the full quarter, from which the 2024 Q3 highs, lows, range and averages were measured. It shows daily comparisons and changes in temperature with highs commonly during the day and lows during the night. As we mentioned earlier, this period saw gradual reduction in temperatures as we got into September 2024 in particular.
On this chart, you can definitely see the outdoor temperature peak in July. Although, this was followed by lower temperatures in the days following this.
Again, as experienced on previous occasions, the indoor temperatures stayed within a more narrow temperature band. These were generally comparable to outside in earlier months, then higher later on. This was, in part, because peoples central heating is often turned on at this time of year.

Humidity in York – 2024 Q3
Here are the salient points from the humidity levels from York in 2024 Q3:
- 2024 Q3 had an average outside relative humidity of 73.5%
- This is remarkably similar to those experienced in Q2
- The highest outdoor humidity in York was 95% and the minimum was 41%
- This means an outdoor range (between high and low) of 54%
- As we know, lower humidity generally was when temperatures were higher
- The average indoor relative humidity was, as usual, lower at 59.8%
- The lowest indoor humidity in York was 46% and the highest was 73%
- This leads to an indoor range of 27% which is also lower than outdoors

Hygrometer Humidity Trends – 2024 Q3
The detailed chart above shows the useful data from which 2024 Q3 highs, lows, range and averages were calculated. Outdoor relative humidity was commonly higher across the quarter but, in places overlapped the outdoor levels at certain points.

Temperature Ranges in York – 2024 Q3
As you can see in the diagram above, the indoor temperature readings taken from the hygrometer measurements for 2024 Q3 are reasonably closely grouped with around 50% of the readings being at 20-22°C (rounded to the nearest degree). In a noticeable variance, the outside readings are definitely more widespread.
This is also replicated relatively similarly with the comparable humidity level readings, with indoor often being lower most often and not getting anywhere near the maximum readings seen outside.
Temperature and Humidity by Time of Day – 2024 Q3
The final set of useful data points for 2024 Q3 compares at how different times of day affect indoor and outdoor readings taken by the hygrometer data trackers. The four familiar groups are:
- Morning – 6am to Noon
- Afternoon – Noon to 6pm
- Evening – 6pm to Midnight
- Night – Midnight to 6am
As you’d commonly expect to see in summer as the heat builds up during the day, the afternoon was commonly the hotter part of the day in York during 2024 Q3 with the night and following morning being the colder, with evening readings generally hotter on average vs the morning. This was generally the opposite of relative humidity for the reasons mentioned previously in this guide.
