This is the latest quarterly report detailing the temperature and humidity in York for 2024 Q2 (April to June), using our own custom remote monitoring equipment, we track three months of climatic measurements focusing seasonal variances vs other meteorological periods of the year.
We measure, chart and do comparisons of indoor and outdoor hygrometer readings throughout this quarter in which temperatures increased throughout the period of spring moving towards summer. We evaluate details, averages, highs and lows seen across the months. This is a quarter where temperatures increased, at a time of year when Flood Damage Services can see increased demand from customers in the region.
Past data reports we have produced are in a separate hygrometer section of our blog – you can see last quarter’s 2024 Q1 Report – Temperature and Humidity in York report

Hygrometer Temperature Trends – 2024 Q2
The graph trend above shows the full, detailed readings taken over the full quarter, from which the 2024 Q2 highs, lows, range and averages were calculated. It shows daily variances and changes in temperature with highs commonly during the day and lows during the night. As we mentioned earlier, this period saw a noticeable increase comparing April to June which you would expect.
On this chart, you can definitely see the outdoor temperature peak in late June. Although, interestingly there was a drop in temperatures immediately after that high.
Again, as experienced previously, the indoor temperatures stayed within a very relatively narrow (and warm) temperature band. These were generally higher than outside in earlier months, then similar later on.
Humidity in York – 2024 Q2
Here are the key points from the humidity readings from York in 2024 Q2:
- 2024 Q2 had an average outside relative humidity of 73.6%
- This is slightly below the levels we saw in earlier months of 2024
- The highest outdoor humidity in York was 97% and the minimum was 42%
- This means an outdoor range (between top and bottom) of 55%
- As normal, lower humidity generally was when temperatures were higher
- The average indoor relative humidity was, as expected, lower at 56.8%
- The lowest indoor humidity in York was 43% and the highest was 70%
- This means an indoor range of just 27% which is also less than outdoor

Hygrometer Humidity Trends – 2024 Q2
The trended graph above shows the interesting data from which 2024 Q2 highs, lows, range and averages were calculated. Outdoor relative humidity was generally higher across the quarter but, in places came close to indoor levels at a number of points.

Temperature Ranges in York – 2024 Q2
As you can clearly observe above, the inside temperature readings taken from the hygrometer measurements for 2024 Q2 are fairly closely grouped with around 60% of the readings being at 18-19°C (rounded to the nearest degree). In a noticeable contrast, the outside readings are clearly more widely spread.
This is also duplicated somewhat similarly with the comparable relative humidity readings, with indoor being lower most often and not getting anywhere near the max readings seen outside.
Temperature and Humidity by Time of Day – 2024 Q2
The final set of informative data points for 2024 Q2 compares at how different times of day affect indoor and outdoor readings taken by the hygrometer data trackers. The four familiar groups are:
- Morning – 6am to Noon
- Afternoon – Noon to 6pm
- Evening – 6pm to Midnight
- Night – Midnight to 6am
As you’d commonly expect to see (especially in Spring), the afternoon was commonly the warmer part of the day in York during 2024 Q2 with the night and following morning being the colder, with evening readings fractionally warmer on average vs the morning. This was generally the opposite of relative humidity for the reasons mentioned previously in this guide.
