How do you test for asbestos?
Professional asbestos testing companies such as ourselves, safely take samples of asbestos from places which are suspected to be possibly asbestos – this can include textured coated ceilings, thermoplastic floor tiles, bitumen adhesive etc. These samples are sealed and sent to a professional asbestos testing laboratory, with the results available within just a few days and they (a) confirm if asbestos is present in those samples and (b) determine what type of asbestos is in the materials. This allows you to help decide next steps.
How long does it take to check asbestos?
After an asbestos sample has been taken safely by a qualified tester, it is immediately sent of to our partner laboratories who confirm if asbestos is present or not, and if it is, what type of asbestos it is (there are many different types with different risks). Once the sample is sent, results are usually available within 2 to 3 working days. For example, a test sent on Monday would usually be available by Wednesday, or Thursday at the latest. At this point, the report of asbestos results is available and will be shared and explained.
Should I test for asbestos?
If you suspect you have asbestos containing materials in your home or business and want to know for sure, especially if it is disturbed, fragmented, cracked or damaged then get it tested by a professional asbestos testing company such as ourselves. This is also the case if it is going to be disturbed, for example if you are doing building, redecoration or renovation work as this is more likely to expose the material fibres which is a health risk. We can do asbestos sampling and testing to determine if asbestos is there and, if so what type of asbestos. This will help determine next steps. Call us for more information and advice.
